BUHARI IN LIFE SUPPORT: GOVERNOR FAYOSE BE VERY CAREFUL THE WAY YOU HEAT UP THE POLITY WITH YOUR HATE SPEECH AGAINST MR PRESIDENT
Okorocha, APC fault Fayose, say Buhari not on life support
The Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, on Thursday faulted a statement credited to his Ekiti State counterpart, Ayodele Fayose, on the state of health of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said Nigerians should disregard Fayose’s statement which he described as baseless and uncalled for.
Okorocha, who is the Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, spoke with State House correspondents in Abuja.
Fayose, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Governors Forum, had on Wednesday alleged that the President was on life support in London and called for his resignation.
But Okorocha said the statement was wrong and was simply meant to heat up the polity.
He further described the statement of the Ekiti State governor as a hate speech which he said had become Fayose’s trademark.
Instead of making such pronouncement, Okorocha said Nigerians should be praying for the President.
He said, “This called to question the recent statement created to Governor Fayose over the health of Mr. President. I want to advise that Fayose’s statement should not be regarded; it is baseless and there is no substance for that information.
“What he said is not right, it is uncalled for and that is simply heating up the polity.
“In our culture and tradition, we do not play politics with peoples’ lives and anybody can be sick, anybody can be in the hospital.
“So, making such categorical statement which is unfounded that Mr. President is on life support is to the best of my knowledge, a statement of hate. That is a cheap talk and Nigerians should not regard it.
“What we should do right now is to pray for Mr. President, wish him well, anybody can be sick. Even as he is sick out there, many people have been sick in Nigeria, so we should not politicise this and play politics with people’s lives and try to create hate and confusion in the system.
“I think that has become Fasoye’s style of talk and Nigerians must never take those kind of talk seriously because it is capable of creating confusion in the system.”
Also, the All Progressives Congress has urged Nigerians to ignore Fayose’s claims that Buhari had been on life support since June 6.
The National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, in an interview he granted Channels Television in Abuja on Thursday, said, “What I can say is that, we are not his doctors but the reports we have are very good. It is a most unfortunate thing, it is not ideal, nobody wishes that on himself or on a nation but he is recovering very, very strongly.
Also, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, challenged Fayose to provide evidence to substantiate his claims.
Abdullahi said, “I don’t have such information on the health status of the President as the spokesman of the APC. All I know is what is in the public domain. If Fayose has such information and he is making it available, I think people should ask him how he got it.
“I only hope he is not celebrating that his prophesy is coming to pass. I hope that is not why he is gleefully announcing it because if that is what he is doing, it is no longer politics; it is about our common humanity.”
