Starlets Return Home to Rousing Welcome

Ghana U-17
The 2017 Africa Under-17 Cup of Nations silver medal-winning Ghana team returned home from Gabon Tuesday afternoon.

The Black Starlets contingent, made up of 21 players, technical and management team members, touched down at the Kotoka International Airport at a
quarter past midday.

They were welcomed by a high powered delegation from the Ghana Football Association led by its President, Kwesi Nyantakyi.

“We are very proud of your achievement. Don’t think that because we didn’t win gold, we are dissatisfied with your performance. We are very happy.

“This is the first time in 10 years that we have played at this level and this is a big testimony to the level of development of youth football in our country. Hold yourselves and count yourselves as very proud Ghanaians who have done this nation a great honour,” he told the team on arrival in Accra.

Also present to welcome the team were members from a number of the national teams’ supporters unions.

The Black Starlets were denied a third Afcon title by Mali who beat them 1-0 in the grand finale of the 2017 edition last Sunday.

The team’s great strides at the competition saw them earn a place at the Fifa Under-17 World Cup. They will be joined by champions Mali, Guinea and Niger to represent Africa at the competition fixed for India in October.
